(Quran KSU)

Image

Image

Image

(Quran KSU)

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

(Quran KSU)

60] (Quran.com)

🇬🇧 The Story of the People of ‘Ad and Prophet Hud

Who Were the People of ‘Ad?

The people of ‘Ad were an ancient nation mentioned several times in the Qur’an. Their prophet was Hud (peace be upon him).

Allah says:

“And to the people of ‘Ad We sent their brother Hud. He said: ‘O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. Will you not fear Him?’”
(Qur’an 7:65)

The Qur’an associates their homeland with Al-Ahqaf, a region characterized by sand dunes. Classical Muslim scholars gave different descriptions of its geographical location, and it is generally associated with parts of southern Arabia.

A Nation Blessed With Great Strength

Image

Image

Image

Image

‘Ad were described as a powerful people. Allah had given them physical strength, prosperity and the ability to build and develop their land.

Hud reminded them:

“And remember when He made you successors after the people of Noah and increased you greatly in stature.”
(Qur’an 7:69)

The problem was not their strength itself.

The problem was pride and arrogance.

They became so impressed by their power that they said:

“Who is greater than us in strength?”
(Qur’an 41:15)

The Qur’an answers:

“Did they not see that Allah, Who created them, was greater than them in strength?”

This is one of the central lessons of the story: human power has limits, while the power of God is absolute.

The Meaning of “Iram of the Pillars”

The Qur’an says:

“Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with ‘Ad — Iram, of the pillars — the like of which was never created in the land?”
(Qur’an 89:6–8)

The expression “Iram of the pillars” has been interpreted in different ways by Muslim scholars.

Stories sometimes circulate claiming that Iram was a gigantic city made entirely of gold, silver and precious stones. However, these details should not be presented as established historical facts.

The safest approach is to remain with what the Qur’an establishes and to distinguish it from later legendary accounts.

Prophet Hud Calls His People to Allah

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Hud did not call his people to abandon civilization or prosperity.

He called them to monotheism, gratitude, repentance and righteousness.

He said:

“O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him.”

He also told them:

“Ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him; He will send down abundant rain upon you and increase you in strength.”
(Qur’an 11:52)

His message was simple:

Use God's blessings with gratitude rather than arrogance.

How Did ‘Ad Respond?

Unfortunately, many of them rejected Hud's message.

They refused to abandon their idols and traditions.

They questioned his prophethood and challenged him.

Yet Hud remained firm.

He declared:

“Indeed, I have put my trust in Allah, my Lord and your Lord.”
(Qur’an 11:56)

This is one of the most powerful moments in the story.

Hud stood before a powerful people, but his confidence did not come from physical strength.

It came from trust in Allah.

The Punishment: A Devastating Wind

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

When the people of ‘Ad persisted in rejection and arrogance, Allah sent upon them a devastating wind.

Allah says:

“So We sent upon them a furious wind during days of misfortune.”
(Qur’an 41:16)

And He says:

“He subjected it to them for seven nights and eight days consecutively.”
(Qur’an 69:7)

The people who once believed themselves to be extraordinarily powerful became helpless before a force created and controlled by Allah.

The Qur’an describes their condition:

“You would see the people lying fallen, as though they were hollow trunks of palm trees.”
(Qur’an 69:7)

The Believers Were Saved

The destruction did not include Prophet Hud and those who believed with him.

Allah says:

“And when Our command came, We saved Hud and those who believed with him, by mercy from Us, and We saved them from a severe punishment.”
(Qur’an 11:58)

This teaches an important lesson:

True security does not come from wealth, armies or physical strength. It comes from faith, righteousness and the mercy of Allah.

Where Was the Land of ‘Ad?

The Qur’an mentions Al-Ahqaf:

“And remember the brother of ‘Ad, when he warned his people in the sand dunes…”
(Qur’an 46:21)

Classical commentators differed over the precise geographical boundaries of Al-Ahqaf.

Therefore, it is better not to claim that a particular archaeological site is definitively the remains of ‘Ad unless there is reliable evidence.

Likewise, photographs circulating online as “the city of Iram” should be treated cautiously.

Lessons From the Story of ‘Ad

1. Strength can become a test

Power is a blessing when used responsibly, but it can become a source of destruction when accompanied by arrogance.

2. Arrogance is dangerous

The words:

“Who is greater than us in strength?”

summarize the attitude that led them away from gratitude.

3. Repentance opens the door to mercy

Hud repeatedly called his people to seek forgiveness and return to Allah.

4. Civilization does not make humans invincible

Buildings, wealth and power cannot protect a society from every consequence of injustice and arrogance.

5. Trust in Allah gives strength

Hud's statement:

“I have put my trust in Allah, my Lord and your Lord.”

remains one of the most powerful expressions of spiritual courage in the Qur’an.

  • adorer Allah ;

  • abandonner l'idolâtrie ;

  • se repentir ;

  • demander pardon ;
